Great for the bedroom August 13, 2010 Kerry Duffy (Surrey UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The first thing is, whatever you do, don't pay £43 plus for it. Sainsbury's have it at 25 quid at their on line store.
Secondly, if this is your primary DVD player, you may be a little disappointed; the quality's acceptable but not brilliant and the up scaling through the HDMI output is no better that the Sony system I have in my sitting room produces through the SCART output.
Having said that; this is a very sexy little unit that will look better than practically anything else that does the same job. Yes the remote is no bigger than a stubby carrot and the buttons are tiny (so keep your readers handy). The picture quality (and I have it paired with a Samsung HD ready 32") is (as I've said) acceptable. It's also great to have the USB input; a memory stick with a Divx file is all you need to get started, much better than watching on your own in front of a PC. I have to say that I was impressed with how clear these compressed files were reproduced.
So in summary, great for the bedroom; for the sitting room, get something better.
Fab DVD player - make it multi-region too... August 7, 2010 Sarah Sydorko 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Just bought this DVD player and I love it, excellent upscaling and picture quality and looks very sleek next to my Samsung TV. Admittedly the remote is a bit small but the TV remote works with it so it's not really a big issue. I have found a region hack that definitely works (just used it myself) try this:
Make sure there is no disc in the player.
Turn on the player (you can use remote control or front panel, it doesn't matter)
Wait for "No Disc" message to appear on the TV screen.
Press the Repeat button on remote (plain, not A-B).
Press the correct sequence of buttons of remote according to the original region code of your player (it's on the sticker on the back panel of the player).
FF = fast forward, FR = fast rewind.
Region 2 players: FF, FR, FF, UP, DOWN
Region 3 players: FF, PLAY, FR, UP, LEFT
Region 4 players: FR, PLAY, DOWN, DOWN, RIGHT
Region 5 players: FF, UP, DOWN, STOP, RIGHT
Region 6 players: LEFT, RIGHT, RIGHT, PLAY, LEFT
If you pressed the correct sequence, a small white number 0 will appear somewhere on the top right of the screen. The white number 0 of the same font and size as the "No Disc" message, so don't confuse with the red "not allowed" sign that would appear when you press a function that's not available.
Turn the player off and on again, then you can pop in a DVD of any region and watch immediately.
Have fun!
samsung h1080 pc users beware August 5, 2010 D. Wright (Dundee Bonnie Scotland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Everything on amazon side perfect quick delivery,as for the dvd player
its very good with dvd disks, however not so good with flash drives
it dose not allow you to set size of the picture from the flash drive
so can end up with small picture with big bands top and bottom,as i use flash drive the most its not nearly as good as it should be,so
if you use flash drive with your movies from the pc i would not recomend it,as if i had knew i couldnt set it to fill screen from the flash drive (USB) i would not have bought it,so for DVD,s perfect very quite but for USB very poor aspect ratio can not be set to fill
screen.samsung should fix this problem with an software update but they dont seem interested as iv contacted them and had no reply.
not great August 1, 2010 fluxia The picture quality of this dvd player leaves a lot to be desired - I have compared it with a sony dvd player bought in 2000 !.......
Divx Play back and BD wise July 21, 2010 defeoite I wanted a dvd player that would play all formats. This dvd player does NOT play all formats. It is the third DVD player that I bought to test out the divx function. The best dvd player for playing movies with different formats is Phillips as the Phillips models seem to have Divx Ultra and for some reason Divx Ultra will play some formats that the Divx won't. The three dvd players I tested were of the same age.
BD wise. I was told that this would work in conjunction with my Samsung TV. What I was not told was that my Samsung TV had to be a new model. My samsung TV is 2 years old and therefore does not work in conjunction with BD wise.
