What you'd expect from Sony March 22, 2010 Dawny B (England) I chose this Home Cinema System purely because it's Sony.(I bought one back in 1999 and was happy with it.) Initially I had awful problems getting some Blue Rays to play and kept getting a rotating disc icon on a black screen. After contacting Sony Customer Services 3 TIMES I finally found someone who knew what they were doing and suggested I insert a USB memory in the back - this sorted out the problem straight away (this was AFTER they sent me on a "Firmware-Update-Wild-Goose-Chase). The set up is very easy, especially with the microphone. There are only 2 things I would change 1) Voices are very difficult to hear as they are not very clear. 2) On my old system I was able to turn the volume up and down without anything appearing on the screen whilst watching the screen.
Overall I'm quite happy with the system and it looks kinda black and sexy.
No picture and poor support March 13, 2010 cougarric Received the item a few days ago. As yet I cannot get a picture despite connections being correct.
Contacting Sony's online support has so far failed to raise a response, so I have looked online for the answer.
So far it looks like my TV (Sony Bravia 40") may be incompatible, despite being only a few years old.
I didn't expect compatibility issues would exist for such items, even more so with the fact that both the blu-ray and TV are Sony!
Another thought was my TV only going to 1080i. Could this cause a problem?
If anyone has any ideas of a solution I'd really appreciate it. Right now I have a dormant blu-ray player and a load of speakers and wire lying about, waiting for the green light so they can be permanently installed.
Cheers
BDVE300 February 21, 2010 Brian M. Connery This product is excellent. The surround sound is perfect for any size room. It is simple to install and operate. This was also excellent value for money compared to many other systems.
Good news and Bad news February 19, 2010 Trevor Clarke (Nantwich, Cheshire) The Good news
The system is as good as described but only good value for money if you can get the system for less than £400.
The Bad news
The network connection does not work as Sony describe, in fact it gives an error message when correctly configured but Sony will tell you when you ask for help, that is your equipment at fault.
They did not supply a manual in English with my machine - you can get a PDF file from Sony USA.
Sony Customer Support is rubbish, do not expect a reply from them. It is better to search on the Internet for BDV-E300 forums.
Sony BluRay Home Cinema February 16, 2010 A. Crick (Norwich, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great product for the money. The picture quality is amazing with BluRay discs, as well as upscaling normal DVDs. Sound quality is good for movies, but don't expected too much for music cd's. Speaker calibration set up with the enclosed mic is a simple as it gets and gives good results. This product is definitely recommended.
