One of the best audio items I've ever bought. August 4, 2010 rix24 First the bad:
- It doesn't have DTS input
- The speaker cables are white ??? Should have been black
Now the good:
- Excellent sound quality: great bass (it has 4 levels and I leave mine on the lowest and still have enough bass to fill a through lounge), great crisp sounds, good EQ presets to choose from.
- Lots of modes: iPod, USB, AUX, AUX TV, Digital (5.1), FM Radio.
- Viera Link: this is the main reason I bought it because it works seamlessly with my Panasonic Viera TV, all control from one remote. Also intelligent enough to turn itself on/off when the TV is turned on/off.
- Very loud: The dial goes to 50 and I have yet to have it higher than 30 with a room full of people for a party because it's loud enough. Gone are the days we needed hi-fi's in living rooms.
- Control your iPod/iPhone using the onscreen menu from the comfort of your sofa
- Looks really cool, the iPod dock can be tucked in when not in use and USB/buttons are behind a hidden panel
I'd NEVER go back to just normal TV sound - I used to think "there's no need to buy surround sound, I don't watch TV that loud anyway" but now I understand it's not about volume, it's about quality. I use mine to watch TV, play PS3 (5.1 Surround allows you hear things on your left/right/behind useful for racing games or FPS), watch movies and mostly listen to my iPod/iPhone even when the TV is off.
If you don't need DTS, then buy this - it's AWESOME!
Good value but a pain to set up. Bad instructions July 21, 2010 M. Atkins (Berkshire) Its a great product but took me ages to work out how to get sound out of my tv. Connected with HDMI and Optical
(but still cant get the optical to work so have phono leads connected as well for sound transfer from the tv).
To make things simple for others when using the tv and external inputs eg Sky, freeview box connected VIA the tv, set the input on the remote to D IN after scrolling through the options on the Radio/Aux button.
Hope that helps. It was 3 hours of my life plugging and unplugging cables that i wont get back...........
Panasonic 5.1 DVD Home Cinema June 8, 2010 Ms. V. Du'quesnay (England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This system is absolutley brilliant. First it is easy to set up, it looks good, and has so much to offer. With this you do not need a stero system as it is so powerful it would start any party rocking. You will not be disappointed I can assure you. Check out the IPod doc and other facilities available. Great buy and excellent value for money.!!
Great Home Theatre System May 20, 2010 C. J. Moore (Aberdeen, Scotland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great system with excellent sound (once you have figured out all the options) and excellent upscaling of regular DVD's. I bought this to replace a 5 year old Sony system which was also good but obviously no HDMI or optical connections.
The reason I have only given 4 stars is the utterly confusing instruction manual and the optical connection which only seems to work with the TV's sound. I have a Toshiba Regza TV and have a bluray player (HDMI to TV), a pvr and a ps2 (both scart to TV) with red and white audio cables plus optical for sound. Only the tv signal is fed through the optical cable and to be honest isn't any better than just using the audio cables which handle everything connected, as well as the tv.. Also, you need to check which high definition 1080 works best for your tv. Mine is 1080i and it really makes an inprovement having the same setting on the panasonic system and the bluray player.
The radio is also excellent and the range of surround sound options will have you constantly changing these as you watch tv or a dvd. Don't expect the system to decode bluray discs to true surround sound, but the pro logic does a good simulation.
Overall, very impressed but a challenge to get to grips with.
Fantastic Sound Quality May 15, 2010 Maya (London) I love the sound qulity, especially with CDs etc, its truly fantastic. However unless I am watching a movie I find it a little too loud for regular TV and it doesnt seem to have a comfortable low setting (hence the 4*s). Take the time to set it up properly and you will enjoy a balanced sound from all the speakers. You will need an optical as well as an HDMI cable. I am not a tekkie, and it was still easy for me to set up - albeit a little slow! I reckon its a good buy. [ASIN:B001Y8Y61Q Panasonic SC-PT470EB-K 5.1 DVD Home Cinema System]]
